The City of Indianapolis

Known affectionately by its residents as 'Indy', the city of Indianapolis is the capital of the US state of Indiana (IN) and is America's 12th largest city. Indianapolis is the dynamic heart of Indiana where the IU School of Law–Indianapolis operates in synergy with downtown government, culture and business to foster an environment where education flourishes.

The Indianapolis metropolitan area has grown dramatically in recent years. Founded in 1821, and located in Marion County, the city contains many interesting historic cultural districts well worth exploring. Experience cobblestone streets, Victorian architecture, and a multitude of unique local shops and restaurants.

Our campus is adjacent to the Indiana Avenue and Canal districts, with access to the city's government center, state musuem, zoo, and beautiful canal walkway. The Law School building, Lawrence W. Inlow Hall, is just steps away from the halls of city and state government, business and law offices, as well as the myriad of cultural and sports offerings of the city.

Known as the Racing Capital of the World®, Indianapolis hosts the two largest single-day sporting events in the country—the Indianapolis 500® and the Allstate® 400 at the Brickyard®. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway also hosts the Red Bull Indianapolis GP® motorcycle race. Indianapolis is home to NBA and WNBA teams, as well as the 2006 NFL Super Bowl Champions, the Indianapolis Colts. The NCAA is headquartered in Indianapolis and the city is a frequent site of the NCAA Final Four®.

The city also boasts a lively downtown area with a creative and thriving arts community that includes gallery walks every first Friday, well known museums and theatres such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indiana Repertory Theatre, and is home to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, which is featured regularly on National Public Radio.
