Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis Loan Repayment Assistance Program |
Low-income individuals and families face legal problems associated with their most basic needs food, housing, healthcare, personal safety and education yet attorneys trained to assist them are limited in number and overwhelmed with clients. Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis is fortunate to have a significant number of students who consider careers in public interest. However, their goals are often frustrated by the increasing size of post-graduation loan debt. For a school with an established pro bono program, instituting a well-funded Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) will ensure that graduates can afford to pursue public service careers consistent with their efforts during law school. Establishing an LRAP through the donations of the University and the community at large is the most efficient response to the needs and aspirations of graduates as well as the challenges facing the local and national community. Many have already championed the initiative by signing our Statement of Support. |
What were potential career choices? How much do they borrow? Who would pursue public interest work but for loan debt? Should an LRAP be a priority? How many considered themselves potential candidates? |
