Obama v. McCain By: Health Enewsletter Board
The struggle between
presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama has been deemed a
derisive head-to-head battle between polar opposites, an idea that
truly manifests itself in the candidates' proposed health care
programs. On the one hand, McCain has drafted a market-based
approach, relying on economic factors to provide greater health care
options. Obama, on the other hand, utilizes the government in his
fight to provide health care for all Americans. Read more...
The Gathering Storm: Nanotechnology, Healthcare, and the Law By: Ralph F. Hall Counsel, Baker & Daniels and Distinguished Visiting Practitioner and Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School
Periodically, a new technology comes
along with the potential to reshape society. Transistors,
microelectronics, biotechnology, and computer-based information systems
are just a few examples. Nanotechnology presents this same or
greater potential. Pundits estimate that nanotechnology-based
products will account for trillions of dollars in sales in only
a few years. Yet, in order to achieve its promise, nanotechnology
must address a plethora of new and unusual legal, social, and ethical
issues that are just now starting to be explored. Read more...

State Health Department Reports Third Human Case of West Nile Virus
INDIANAPOLIS - State health officials
report one probable human case of West Nile virus in Marion
County. This is the third human case of West Nile virus infection
in Indiana this year. The other human cases were in Perry and
Tippecanoe counties. West Nile virus is transmitted to humans by
mosquitoes that have first bitten an infected bird. A person bitten by
an infected mosquito may show symptoms from three to 15 days after the
bite. Health officials say although individuals age 50 and over
are at greatest risk for serious illness and possibly death from the
West Nile virus, people of all ages have been infected with the virus
and have had severe health problems. For more information, visit
the Indiana State Department of Health Web site at: www.statehealth.IN.gov. |
