The Association of the Bar of the City of New York's National Moot Court Competition
The Association of the Bar of the City of New York's National Moot Court Competition is the largest national competition in which our school competes during the Fall Semester. The competition, which begins with a regional stage, is set in the U.S. Supreme Court and typically involves issues of federal statutory and constitutional law. Teams from our school initially compete in Region Eight, which comprises Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The national final is held in New York City.

The National Health Law Competition is hosted by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The competition focuses on health law issues. The topic for the Fall 2007 competition concerned issues surrounding contraceptives.

The National Appellate Advocacy Competition, which is organized and sponsored by the American Bar Association, is the largest competition in which our school competes. The competition begins with a regional stage, consisting of four regions, and then progresses to a national competition. The top four schools from each region qualify for the national finals, which are held in Chicago every April. The competition problem is set in the U.S. Supreme Court and typically involves issues of statutory and constitutional law.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which is sponsored by the International Law Students Association, is an international competition that begins with a qualifying regional round. Students compete against other students from around the world. The competition focuses on a broad array of international law issues.

The Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, is sponsored by the International Trademark Association (INTA). Twenty schools compete in each of four regions. Regional winners compete in a Final National Competition in Washington, DC, USA. The objective of the Competition is to introduce law students to important issues arising in U.S. trademark and unfair competition law. The appeal is argued before distinguished jurists from the Court of Appeals of the Federal Circuit (CAFC), the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the USPTO and judges from various district and other courts.

The competition focuses on a broad array of international law issues. The 2006 competition involves legal issues regarding indigenous rights and corporate responsibility for human rights.

The competition begins with a regional stage, consisting of four regions, and then progresses to a national competition. The competition problem is set in the U.S. Supreme Court and typically involves issues of statutory and constitutional law.
In March 2004, two teams from our school competed in the Northeast Regional Competition in New York City. Both teams were regional quarterfinalists. Andy Campbell and Andre Gaston, two of the team members, were the winning team in the 2003 Intramural Moot Court Competition's Barrister Tournament. Sally Steward, the teams' coach, is a veteran of the team that was regional champion and national finalist in the 2003 ABA Competition.

The Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Competition is a national competition held at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison. The competition focuses on issues of federal constitutional law.
In March 2004, two teams from our school competed in the competition. One of the team members, was the top oralist in the 2003 Intramural Moot Court Competition. Jeff Preston, the teams' coach, is a veteran of the 2003 Jessup International Moot Court Competition.

The August A. Rendigs, Jr. National Products Liability Moot Court Competition is held at the University of Cincinnati College of Law in Cincinnati, Ohio. The competition focuses on important issues of products liability law.
In April 2004, two teams from our school competed in the competition. Kameelah Shaheed, the teams' coach, is a veteran of the 2003 Rendigs Competition.

The Association of the Bar of the City of New York's
National Moot Court Competition is the largest national competition
in which our school competes during the Fall Semester. The
competition, which begins with a regional stage, is set in the U.S.
Supreme Court and typically involves issues of federal statutory and
constitutional law. Teams from our school initially compete in
Region Eight, which comprises Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The
national final is held in New York City in the spring.
For the first time in the competition's history, our school
hosted the Region Eight Regional Competition in 2003. Two teams represented our school in the Region Eight Regional
Competition. One team consisted of Alexandra Curlin, a veteran of
the 2002 National Moot Court Competition, and Dana Johnson, a member
of the winning team in the 2002 Intramural Moot Court
Competition's Barrister Tournament. The other team consisted of
Rayanna Alexander and Kevin Gfell. Rayanna and Kevin are veterans of
the 2003 ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition, in which Kevin
earned honors at the regional and national level. C.W. Raines, a
veteran of the Lefkowitz Competition and a member of the 2002 Moot
Court Board, coached the teams. Allison Miller, who teaches
Legal Analysis, Research, and Communication, served as the team's
faculty advisor.
Both teams excelled in Region Eight. Alexandra, Dana, and Kevin took honors as oralists, placing first, second, and fourth, respectively. Alexandra and Dana were regional semi-finalists, narrowly losing to the eventual regional champion, Notre Dame. Kevin and Rayanna were regional finalists, losing in the final round to Notre Dame. However, by making it to the regional final, Kevin and Rayanna qualified for the national finals, which will take place in New York City in February 2004.

The National Health Law Competition is hosted by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. During the 2003 Fall Semester, one team, consisting of Brian Betner and Heather Macek, represented school in the competition. Both Brian and Heather are members of the school's Health Law Society, and Heather was a member of the 2002 Moot Court Board. Jaime Cole, a veteran of the 2003 Evans Constitutional Law Competition, coached the team. Eleanor Kinney, the director of the school's Center for Law and Health, served as the team's faculty advisor.
