Environmental Policy Forum
Description:
The Environmental Policy Forum is a new IU-Indianapolis Law School research and educational initiative to examine legal and institutional frameworks for the environment, and support leaders in government, business, and the non-profit sector in their efforts to reform and strengthen those frameworks. Research emphasizes innovative and collaborative approaches to complex environmental challenges such as climate change, energy policy, and development impact. Public dialogue (through workshops, roundtables, and symposia) will draw on this research and engage scholars across disciplines with decision-makers at a local, state, national, and international level to analyze and debate policy alternatives. This deliberative process will provide a neutral ground to seek compromise and advance cooperative solutions to public environmental concerns. The publication of white papers, policy briefs, and legislative guides will also stimulate wider discussion of environmental policy alternatives.
In all cases, the Forum will engage students as researchers, investigators, and participants in analysis and deliberation. The opportunity for IU-Indy students to work alongside high-level officials, established scholars, and community leaders will both inform the process and provide valuable experiential learning for students.
The initiative will raise IU-Indy’s profile as a place for vital policy deliberation at the same time that it provides learning opportunities through direct student involvement in legislative and regulatory processes.
